Located in the heart of West Africa, Mali has a key geographical position with a robust infrastructure. Mali is the second largest country in the West African Economic and Monetary Union with an area of 1,241,238km². Its capital is Bamako, home to more than a million people.

Mali's economic structure is strongly dominated by the primary and tertiary sectors. The country has three major areas of investment: agribusiness, livestock and energy.

As the third largest gold producer in Africa, Mali has considerable potential for development in several areas. The iron and bauxite industries remain untapped and there is considerable potential for the development of the building materials industry (lime, marble and granite).

The country presents a number of high-growth opportunity sectors for investors and a favourable environment for the establishment, development and profitability of their businesses.

Mali has introduced a large number of fiscal provisions to support business start-ups and growth. The country has also implemented bold land policies to facilitate access to agricultural land.

To support the vision of emergence by 2025, Mali will need to make considerable improvements in the fields of livestock and mining in order to make the most of its rich and varied mineral potential. Return to calm and political stability should also help revive sectors such as tourism, which bodes well for the return of investors.
